FREEPORT-- The northwest Illinois community and friends of Highland Community College are invited to join the 2017 graduates and their families as they celebrate the 54th annual Commencement Ceremony to be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday, May 13.
The address to the class of 2017 will be given by Dr. Karen Hunter Anderson, Executive Director of the Illinois Community College Board (ICCB). Dr. Anderson has been with the ICCB since 1999 and became the Executive Director in 2013. She has also served as the ICCB Vice President for Adult Education and Institutional Support, Senior Director for Student and Instructional Development, Director of Career and Technical Education, Associate Director of Education to Careers. Dr. Anderson received her M.A. in English and Ph.D. in Rhetoric and Composition from the University of Louisville.
The ceremony will be held outdoors on the HCC campus in Freeport. Commencement will take place in the courtyard between the Marvin-Burt Liberal Arts Center and Natural Science and Health Center. Guest parking will be located in parking lot D on the south side of campus outside of the Natural Science and Health Center.
The College is expecting a large number of participating graduates; as such, seating will be limited and available on a first-come-first-served basis.
In the case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be held in the Larry F. Kahl Gymnasium located in the YMCA/Sports Center on Highland's campus. Due to a large number of graduates, tickets will be required to attend the ceremony if held in the Sports Center.FREE EVENT
