Highland names new head women's basketball coach

Highland Community College has named Erin Butler as the new head basketball coach for the Lady Cougars. She replaces Chris Westlake, who resigned last week. Butler comes to the program with three years' experience as an assistant basketball and volleyball coach and recruiter at Rock Valley College.

Butler is a Forreston High School graduate who went on to play basketball at Rock Valley College. She was a member of the 2008 - 2009 RVC team that placed 7th in the NJCAA Division III National Tournament. She holds a bachelor's degree in Business Administration from Judson University.

"We are excited to have Erin take over the women's basketball program in such a unique and challenging situation," said Highland Athletic Director Pete Norman. "We are fortunate to have been able to hire Erin midway through the season and look forward to her immediate positive impact with the players and program.  I know Coach Butler is anxious to meet with the team and move forward with the 2nd half of the season."

Butler will lead the Lady Cougars effective immediately. Due to the coaching transition, the Lady Cougars' December 30 game versus Lake County has been rescheduled for Saturday, January 31 at 1:00 pm and the January 3 contest with Madison College has been cancelled.
