Cosmetology department holds annual Well Woman fundraising events

FREEPORT -- The Highland Community College Cosmetology department is holding their annual fundraiser for the Well Woman of Northwest Illinois agency which assists women who are either uninsured or not covered in getting regular cancer screening tests.

This year, cosmetology students and instructors donated enough gift items to make up 10 theme baskets for all ages. Raffle tickets are $1 each or 6 for $5, and may be purchased during business hours at the Cosmetology salon throughout the month of October. Tickets are also available from cosmetology students and faculty. All baskets are on display in the cosmetology department and hallway window outside of the department.

On Wednesday, October 23, from 11 a.m. to -1 p.m. cosmetology students will be in the HCC cafeteria performing "Pink Fun" manicures to raise funds.

All proceeds from the sales of raffle tickets, manicures, and the daily salon receipts from November 1, 2013 will be donated to the Well Women of Northwest Illinois.

The HCC Cosmetology salon is open to the public Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. For more information about the fundraiser or the HCC Cosmetology program, visit or call 815.599.3544.
