Highland Community College Adult Education to begin this fall

FREEPORT—The Highland Community College Adult Education program is encouraging potential students to contact their office about registering for fall classes. GED® test preparation classes will begin in August.

A new computer-based GED test will replace the paper-based test at the end of the year. Currently, the cost for the paper-based test is $50, but the fee will increase to $130 for the test and certificate on January 1, 2014. Since prior scores will not carry over into 2014, students with partial results will lose all previous scores. They must start over with the new test if they have not successfully completed by December of 2013.

"Our department is preparing to meet these new challenges while also heavily encouraging current and former students to complete their GED test in a timely fashion," said Mark Jansen, director of adult education programs. "The deadline of January 2014 may seem far away, but the amount of time needed to prepare and register for the exam varies per student."

For more information on GED preparation classes, please contact Highland's Adult Education department at 815.599.3460. Call to register for classes on or after August 1.
