HCC Business Institute offers Globally Harmonized System Training

FREEPORT—The Highland Community College Business Institute and the Freeport Area Chamber of Commerce are partnering to host the upcoming Safety Training “Bites” event from 7:30 to 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, March 28 for interested companies, organizations, and individuals.

The spring training event will be held in room H-201B of the Student/Conference Center. Check-in is from 7:30 to 8:00 am, at which time a continental breakfast will be available. Candra Jefferson, OSHA Compliance Assistance Specialist, will present an overview of OSHA and share updates. Attendees will hear about employers’ responsibilities, triggers and the process for inspections, and details about the GHS/HazCom 2012 timeline. The session will conclude with a question and answer period.

HCC Business Institute’s safety instructor, John Vaughan, will follow with a two hour seminar focusing on the new Globally Harmonized System, otherwise known as HazCom 2012. The presentation will address the classification of chemical hazards, labeling, information, and MSDS sheets. OSHA requires employees to be trained for GHS by December 1, 2013.
