Highland Phi Theta Kappa students named to All-Illinois Academic Team

FREEPORT � Highland Community College's international honor society chapter, Phi Theta Kappa (PTK), has announced that Kenneth Kauke of Rockford and Jacob Crome of Stockton were named to the All-Illinois Academic Team. Each year, two students from 32 community colleges are nominated for superior academic standing, and involvement on campus and in their local communities. funny easter pictures

Kenneth Kauke, husband to Donna and father of three young children, plans to major in Elementary Education next fall upon completion of his Associate of Arts degree in Professional Education. He plans to earn a master�s degree in the future, and teach first- or second-grade students. funny pictures

Kauke's campus commitments include the Adult Student Network, and supporting PTK events and fundraisers. He also assisted in presenting a PTK study on student completion rates. While not always on campus, Kauke is heavily engaged in his local community and children�s activities. He is the coordinator of Rockford Dads, a networking and support group for fathers. In addition, he has served as a Girl Scout assistant troop leader, team manager/coach for the Rockford Park District and school district volunteer. Through mentoring youth, Kauke discovered his love of teaching and unique ability to connect with students in the area of elementary education. funny images

Jacob Crome, son of Phil and Julie Crome of Stockton, is currently completing his Associate of Science degree in Chemistry as well as an Associate of Engineering Science degree. He intends to focus on chemical engineering after transferring to either the University of Iowa or the University of Minnesota next fall. He would like to focus on pharmaceutical research.

Crome's involvement includes serving as the current President of Phi Theta Kappa, participating in the Student Senate, and a becoming member of the Society of Physics students. He was also a former public relations officer for PTK and treasurer for the Student Senate. He is presently employed in the HCC Career Services Department and as a tutor in the Success Center. Crome's application also highlighted his previous Eagle Scout achievements, mentoring to high school students, as well as participation in a technology seminar and PTK college completion study. funny photos
