HCC Cosmetology Department Raises Funds for Mammograms
The Highland Community college cosmetology students held a “Sea of Pink” fundraiser on Friday, October 26th to raise funds to help pay for mammograms through the Well Woman of Northwest Illinois Foundation.
“We enjoy being able to hold these special events to raise funds for worthwhile causes. It energizes our students and shows them how we can use our business to promote wellness,” said Instructor Cathie Schmerse.
The instructors and students donated a basket filled with pink gift items, which was raffled off during the event. Pink light bulbs, which the Well Woman Foundation was selling for their "Porches in Pink" Breast Cancer Awareness campaign, were also available for purchase during the event. The cosmetology department also donated all of their proceeds for the day.
A total of $530.00 was presented to Connie Raisbeck, director of the Well Woman of Northwest Illinois Foundation. All donations will go to assist in the payment of mammograms for women with high insurance deductibles.
The Cosmetology salon is open to the public Tuesday – Friday from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. For more information about the program visit www.highlandcosmo.com
