Brendan Dutmer

Interim Associate Dean, Natural Science and Mathematics
Office Number: N-109

Brendan received his Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry in 2004 from the University of Missouri-Columbia and his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Chemistry in 2010 from Northern Illinois University. Brendan became a part of the Highland community in the Spring of 2011 as a Chemistry instructor. He served as the Chair of Natural Science and Mathematics from the Fall of 2013 through the Summer of 2016, and currently serves as the Interim Associate Dean of Natural Science and Mathematics. On campus, Brendan has helped plan a full chemical laboratory renovation that will be complete for the start of the Fall 2016 semester. With the help of the Natural Science and Mathematics division, Brendan has worked extensively towards expanding the Engineering program and beginning a new Environmental Sciences program. Brendan hopes these programs and other projects will foster passion in the sciences and provide students with quality opportunities.

Brendan is an avid supporter of Highland’s Honor’s program, having worked with numerous students on research in conjunction with faculty at Northern Illinois University. While participating in their research, students submit their jobs remotely to NIU for computational and theoretical chemistry calculations.

Outside of Highland, Brendan is professionally affiliated with the American Chemical Society, the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry, and Sigma Xi – The Scientific Research Society.
