Director of Fine Arts John Webb described exciting new developments for Highland theatre majors.

The theatre program now has two avenues for students interested in an associate’s degree – technical theatre or acting. The actors spend an intensive 3 or more hours per day working with a physical trainer and in acting class. The group receives beneficial training by spending a concentrated amount of time together forming an ensemble. According to Webb, kinesthetic work is critical for actors because “the body is an actor’s greatest tool.”

This new, more holistic approach better prepares actors for the rigors of auditioning and pursuing stage careers. “This is not an easy career,” said Webb. “You can be the most talented actor, but if you are not committed, not persistent, it’s not going to work for you.”
