Larry F. Kahl Gymnasium
The
Larry F. Kahl Gymnasium, located in the Sports Center, is the Highland
Cougars’ home basketball and volleyball court. It seats up
to 1500 spectators. Attendance for Highland Cougars’ home
games is often impressive; our loyal fans pack the gym to watch
exciting basketball even on the coldest winter days and nights in
Illinois to support our Cougars.
The
gymnasium is named after the late Larry F. Kahl, one of Highland’s
long-time loyal fans and supporters. Current Highland Cougars receive
scholarship funds from the Kahl family.
The
Cougars have had some heart-stopping victories as well as some heart-breaking
losses at the Larry F. Kahl gymnasium. By only giving up one loss,
our women’s volleyball team undeniably had a home court advantage
during the fall 2003 season.
Basketball
fans can enjoy concessions and snacks. The Cougar Baseball and Softball
teams run the concessions stand. Concessions include pop, bottled
water, pizza, hot dogs, chips, nachos, and candy.
The
Sports Center, in partnership with the YMCA,
is a comprehensive, multilevel facility. The HCC/YMCA Sports Center
features locker rooms, and weight and training facilities, including
Iron Works, Olympic-size 25-meter pool, three racquetball courts,
two gymnasiums, 1/14-mile banked jogging track, a universal gym,
Air Dyne bikes, Cybex, Transports, Nordic Track, and a rowing machine.
The multipurpose facility also serves as home to Cougar
Volleyball, practice area for Cougar Baseball, and has been
the site of numerous summer sports camps and high school tournaments.
Athletic department coaches and administrators’ offices are
also located in the Sports Center.
Highland
Community College hosted the 2004 NJCAA Region IV men and women’s
basketball tournament. Highland hosted the NJCAA Region IV men’s
tournament in 2003 and the NJCAA Region IV men and women’s
tournament in 2000.
A
parking lot with nearly 300 spaces is located just outside the Sport’s
Center. Our maps and directions section can help visitors find their
way to campus.
West Diamond Baseball Field
The West
Diamond is the Highland Cougars home baseball field. It is located
on the west side of the campus and is just seconds away from the
Sports Center.
The
baseball field received major improvements. The infield was resurfaced
with a turf conditioner that is made from volcanic rock, which improves
playability because it drains quicker than traditional lime surfaces.
New dugouts and bleachers were built for both the Cougars and for
visiting teams. Additional water fountains were added. New, higher
fences were installed. The teams and fans can keep track of scores
with a new scoreboard. With the addition of a new blacktop path,
our baseball field is more easily accessible.
In
addition to playing on the field, the baseball team also holds indoor
practices in the Sports Center. The Sports Center, in partnership
with the YMCA, is a comprehensive, multilevel facility. The HCC/YMCA
Sports Center features locker rooms, and weight and training facilities,
including Iron Works, Olympic-size 25-meter pool, three racquetball
courts, two gymnasiums, 1/14-mile banked jogging track, a universal
gym, Air Dyne bikes, Cybex, Transports, Nordic Track, and a rowing
machine. The multipurpose facility also serves as home to Cougar
Volleyball and Cougar Basketball, practice area for Cougar Softball,
and has been the site of numerous summer sports camps and high school
tournaments. Athletic department coaches and administrators’
offices are also located in the Sports Center.
With
a parking lot with nearly 300 spaces located just steps away from
the field and the Sports Center, visitors can easily find a parking
spot. Our maps and directions section can help visitors find their
way.
Softball
Field
The
softball diamond for the Highland Cougars home softball games is
located on the west side of the campus and is just seconds away
from the Sports Center.
The
newly constructed field is now complete for our on-campus Cougar
Softball games. The infield has been skinned with a turf conditioner
that is made from volcanic rock, which will help playability because
it drains quicker than traditional lime surfaces. The dugouts and
bleachers were built, water fountains were added, and the scoreboard
was installed. A blacktop path allows for ADA accessibility.
