Highland Community College Adult Education serves individuals who live in Carroll, Jo Daviess, Ogle, and Stephenson Counties.

Adult education provides people who live in northwest Illinois with the tools they need to make dramatic life changes – a better job or a chance at a college degree.

We offer FREE classes that change the lives of individuals who live in northwest Illinois.

We offer FREE GED practice tests. Inquire today.

Last year 141 adult students received their GED through Highland’s adult education program. Over 800 students participated in adult education programming and almost 200 of those students were enrolled in beginning, intermediate, or advanced English-as-a-Second-Language classes.

GED Preparation Classes
Classes prepare you for GED testing in:
· Math
· Writing mechanics and essay writing
· Social Studies
· Science
· Literature
· Constitution

Basic Skills (ABE) Classes
Classes or one-on-one tutoring help you improve skills for GED testing or employment. Instruction includes skill development in:
· Reading
· Writing
· Math

ESL Classes
Classes for foreign-born students to help improve:
· Reading
· Writing
· Speaking
· Listening

Short-term Training
A computerized program helps students learn, practice and apply basic entry-level skills in:
· Food Service
· Health
· Maintenance
· Retail
· Clerical
· Customer Service
· Keyboarding

Basic Computer Literacy
Participants will:
· Become familiar with Windows operating system
· Learn to identify parts of the desktop
· Learn to open and close applications
· Search and surf the Internet
· Learn basic formatting commands
· Gain proficiency in keyboard and mouse dexterity

Highland’s GED Plus program helps you achieve more than your GED. Our position is that the GED is your first big leap toward a College degree, a better job or advancement in your current workplace. Our free Plus services are geared toward adult students seeking a quick transition to College.
