About NIOIN
The Northern Illinois Online Initiative for Nursing is a regional collaborative involving four community colleges, local universities and colleges and eight hospitals, which offers a hybrid online Associate Degree in Nursing program in addition to the four face-to-face programs already in place.
Didactic nursing classes are taken online whereas the skills labs and clinical experiences are offered concurrently at the community colleges and regional health care facilities, as appropriate.
Up to ten students will be accepted from each of the four colleges into NIOIN once a year in January, pending enough qualified candidates. This determination will be made yearly. Therefore it is important that students also apply to other programs in addition to NIOIN.
Students, upon completion, would receive an AAS degree from their respective colleges and be eligible to sit for the NCLEX-RN examination.
The program consists of four semesters, which run consecutively, including one summer. Find out more here.
Successful completion of NIOIN requires a full time commitment from the student. A minimum of 30 hours per week is needed for intense reading, studying, writing and testing related to online assignments. Included in those 30 hours are two days, evenings or nights per week, throughout the entire program, which are spent in labs and clinicals.
